So you are a Billionaire CEO but have absolutely no time to focus on personal branding. Not that it matters to you, but personal branding directly impacts your business branding. As businesses expand, and there are young and enthusiastic players in the market ready to knock you off the field. How do you game up and sustain your authority?
7 Ways for C-Suite Leaders to Elevate Personal Branding in 2020
In this article, I will share with you seven essential things that every C-suite executive should regularly be doing. I will also share the strategic outcome of each practice.
1. LinkedIn Branding
You must be your best on LinkedIn. Starting with your profile photograph, to your ‘about-me,’ your experiences, your charity commitment, and willingness to share knowledge are a few essential hygiene factors. I am sure you can delegate this task to your company secretary who can accomplish it for you. Here, the only thing that you may face a problem with is to maintain a professional yet engaging profile. Now, how do you engage people to brand the eminence that’ll give you a new, insightful, and authoritative voice? You can write English and have industry knowledge. What you do not have is time. What you do not have is an executive with excellent command over the language, with market insights, and creative approach to embolden your market position.
2. Twitter Branding
Leaders are afraid of Twitter, but it is the most attractive and no-nonsense place for your followers to know you a bit better beyond your business. There you can talk about a cause you care or a deal your team has accomplished through brief and exquisite storytelling. Character limitation on Twitter works terrific and to the advantage of your time and space. There are several products in the market to automate your Twitter engagement, but the point is what you will automate? What would you like your followers to perceive your presence? On Twitter, you can give a shout-out to a business or an individual and create a butterfly effect. Appreciation generates a significant amount of electricity with which you can have a whole generation remember you beyond your time-limits.
3. Personal Branding: Website
As a thought leader, you should have a blog with backlinks to your business. You should encourage your partners to do the same. The Internet loves backlinks, and if you can generate so much for yourself and your business, you develop authority technically known as Domain Authority (DA) and Page Authority (PA). On your blog, to present your human side, you can talk about your vulnerabilities, wisdom, strategic thinking, success, failures, and the list is endless. Write SEO-rich blog articles for a minimum of 1200 words before Google starts noticing you. Determine what your industry is looking for, and talk about that. Interact with your readers on a regular basis to sustain interest. For visual relevancy, use memes, gifs, photographs, and video clips to mark your cool factor. Share your blog summary on all mediums with a backlink to your blog site.
4. Email Communication
Now, it is your secretary who responds to your emails. How do we humanize that? How do we make your clients feel that you care for them genuinely, and beyond your business relationship? Sending gifts is not a financially savvy idea, and many take it as an offense to receive gifts and liken it to bribery. You are a person of high standards, and you need to show that you know how to care for beyond business communication. So, can you email your list something exciting you have done in a week, in a month, last summer on the same day and how it reminded you of them? Imagine how you can scale your relationship, and customer retention base through weekly exclusive email connects with chosen people based on your annual priorities. Isn’t it a great idea? How do you get this level of personalization? Time to think!
5. Guest Posting
Of the four strategies I have discussed, guest-posting is a very high-end branding game. Through this, you not only establish your brand, your company’s brand, but you also develop eminence that brands all the people working for you. So guest-posting is a process by which you get your articles published on a third-party site. Now, you can easily afford Forbes or the Entrepreneur to publish your content. But there is nothing more respectful when it is not a vanity publication because of the ‘Sponsored’ tag. You have to determine high authority, relevant websites where you can publish your content to share on your social media and your website to build a followership. Make your guest-posting collaboration with new high-content companies run by millennials whose audience can benefit from your wisdom.6. Write a Book
6. Public Speech/ Conference Content
Once, a CTO asked me to author a speech for him. He had to address a crowd of 112 CEOs who were a lot of technical guys, not the Steve Job kind. I was thrilled to have his trust, and I researched a great deal to come up with an innovative copy for his speech. So, brace yourself and imagine how you can talk about the puffer-fish delicacy made in Japan to the process of product innovation of the CTO’s company? Get in touch with me on @Twitter, if you are curious to know how I made the cocktail. Long story short, you as a company owner are already a brand. You live for your associates, stakeholders, and your end consumers. All your speeches should tell a story for a high recall factor. And one that has a recall value is an easy sell.
7. Write a Book
The best you bet, right? As an entrepreneur, a market leader, you have your share of hardships. Your experience is a unique fingerprint that can help people to follow your path. And who is followed? A leader, right? A person who has been-there-done-that and knows the game up his sleeve. You can commission a business school intern to do this, or hire an experienced writer to tell your stories that way the world would love to hear them. A professional writer with a flair for markets and industries can provide innovative content that does not make your book a boring biography. A good writer can give you ample ideas that you can author your book on. All you have to do is, find a writer, share with them your story, and let them weave a new one.
